This Grand Bed is a full 14 inches packed with seven layers of foam. Each Layer is uniquely designed and positioned to provide a plush sleep surface, durability and a total comfort experience. Three layers of pollyurethane foam, are covered by four layers of memory foam. The cover combines a satin like side fabric with a beautiful gold hightlighted stretch knit on top. Having slept on this bed for over a month now, here are my thoughts: 1. For a few months I started having back problems (I am 34 and an athlete), decided to switch the mattress to help it, and this one has done just that. I really like the mattress. It is comfortable yet still somewhat firm - very supportive of the lower back (i.e. cannot feel any separation between back and mattress when I put my hand back there) 2. Mattress is heavy. Took a huge effort to get this mattress in place. Definitely useful to have a second person. 3. I did not have much a problem with the smell. I opened the mattress and let it sit in the living room for 4 days before switching it out and the smell is gone. 4. One problem to note, and I am not sure if this is the same with Tempurpedic, you have to sleep/lie at least a foot from the edge (maybe not if you are smaller. I am 6'2" 205lbs) else the edge of the bed ends up collapsing too much to support you... Shipping: Mattress arrived in decent packaging via UPS. The cardboard box was a little thin, but it did fold up easily for convenient disposal. Upon removing the box, the mattress is vacuum-packed in plastic. (I also uploaded 2 pictures for reference.) Unpacking: Upon first glance, it appears that this mattress is packed in a ton of plastic, but as I started cutting away at the plastic, it actually was very easy to remove. After unpacking, mattress expanded to full size within 2 hours. (I uploaded a photo of the mattress that I took immediately after removing the plastic.) Comments: 1. The mattress is very heavy, so it may be a good idea to have additional muscle on hand. I was able to drag it up to the second floor myself, but it was quite a daunting task (I'm only 130 lbs. so give me a break!). 2.
