It came shrunk wrapped in a large, tubular duffel type bag. The packaging protecting the unit very well in shipping. This is a well padded mattress that does not feel springy. The coils are comfortable and a bit on the "firm" side, which is fine for me. It came vacuum packed and stuffed in a cloth tube carrier, which was a bit tight and difficult to remove. Once the plastic wrap was cut (be careful not to cut the mattress), the air rushed in and the mattress popped into shape, ready to go. There is a slight "new mattress" smell, but it doesn't seem overpowering to me. I can't speak for its longevity, yet, since I just got it. But what you won't get here is a 10-year warranty or something like that, but for the price, I am willing to forego that and hope it lasts long enough.
